Expensive on default settings; the right settings matter most here. Last reviewed September 2026; plans and model names change often, so check the tool's own pricing page before you buy.
Gen-4.5 is Runway's current model, for text-to-video and image-to-video; it uses 12 credits per second (60 for 5 s, 120 for 10 s).
Start from a strong still image (image-to-video) when you need control over composition and look.
Keep camera direction simple: one move per shot ("slow push in", "static shot") gives steadier results.
Generate short clips and cut them together; it is cheaper to redo a 5-second shot than a long one.
Plan shots before generating. The free plan has 125 one-time credits; Standard is $15/month for 625 credits (runway.com, September 2026).
Other models on the platform (Kling, Seedance, Aleph) suit different shots; compare on a short test before a full sequence.
Skip ProRes or PNG output unless you need it for grading; it adds 5 credits per second.
