Why check at all
More customers now ask an AI assistant for "a good dentist near me" instead of scrolling through a list. If the assistant names three clinics and yours is not one of them, you lose a patient you never knew about. The first step is simply to look, because nobody can fix what they have not seen.
Do it yourself in a few steps
This method is our advice, not a rule from any platform.
- Write five questions a customer would type, such as "best salon in Indore for bridal makeup" or "family dentist near my area". Use your city and your service.
- Open a fresh chat in each assistant you want to test, so earlier chats do not colour the answer.
- Ask each question and write down every business named, in the order given.
- Note whether you appear, what is said about you, and whether the details are right.
- Repeat on another day, because answers can differ from day to day.
What to record
Keep a simple table with four columns: the question, the assistant, who was named, and whether you were named. Add a column for mistakes, such as a wrong address, an old phone number or the wrong timing. Wrong facts are the easiest to fix, and often they come from an out-of-date profile or website.
What Google says about its AI answers
Google's page on AI features says that to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Search with a snippet, and that there are no additional technical requirements. It says no special optimisation is necessary, recommends standard SEO fundamentals, and says you do not need new machine-readable files, AI text files or special markup. It also says serving is not promised, even when a page meets every requirement.
If you are not named
We cannot tell how every assistant chooses, and nobody outside those companies can promise you a place. What you can do is make the facts about your business clear and consistent: a complete Business Profile with the right category and hours, real reviews that you answer, and a page on your website that states your services, prices and address in plain words. Check that those pages are indexed. Then run your five questions again after a few weeks.
Be careful with promises
Anyone who promises to get your business named by an AI assistant is promising something Google itself does not. Look for a service that shows you the questions asked, the answers recorded and the fixes made, and that repeats the check so you see what changed.
