Three kinds of post
Google's help page lists three post types:
- Update. News, a new product or a notice. It takes a description, and optionally a photo, a video and an action button with a link.
- Offer. A time-limited deal. It needs a title and dates and times, and Google adds a View Offer button automatically. You can add a description, photo, video, a coupon code, a link and terms.
- Event. Something with a start and an end. It needs a title with start and end dates and times. If you leave out the times, the event shows as lasting 24 hours on the dates you give.
How long posts last
Posts are archived after six months unless you set a date range. You can schedule posts, and set them to repeat weekly, monthly or on a custom pattern. A post can be Live, which means it shows on Search and Maps, Pending, which means it is not shown yet because of uploading, processing or an unverified profile, or Not approved, which means it broke a content policy.
What to share (our suggestions)
- A new service, dish or arrival, with a clear photo.
- Changed hours for a festival or holiday, using an update post.
- A weekend offer with real dates.
- A workshop or open day as an event.
- A short answer to a question customers ask often.
Keep a steady rhythm you can sustain, such as one post a week, instead of ten posts in a day and none for months.
What Google will not allow
- Phone numbers in the description can get a post rejected if Google cannot connect them to your business.
- The writing must be professional, without misspellings or auto-generated, distracting material.
- No offensive language, and no sexually suggestive or explicit content.
- Links must go to trusted websites. Links to malware, viruses, phishing or adult sites are blocked.
- Regulated industries, such as alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, gambling, weapons and financial services, may post but not about the regulated products.
If a post is Pending or Not approved
Pending usually means Google is still processing it, or your profile is not yet verified. Our guide on verifying your profile explains how to fix the second. If a post is Not approved, read it for a banned item from the list above, edit it and post again.
Honest offers only
Only post an offer you will honour, with dates that are real. A customer who arrives for a deal that has ended will leave a review about it.
Post one real update today with a clear photo.
How this post was made: an AI drafted it from the official pages listed under Sources, every figure was checked against those pages, and the Reveaxa team approved it before it was published. Our own advice is marked as such. If a source changes, we update the post and its date.
